As a church learning to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we teach what it means to be a disciple in church, at home and in school. In a safe and enjoyable environment, we share in learning activities shaped by the Gospel, open and alive to the individual gifts and abilities of our youth and teachers, always seeking practical ways of living out our maturing faith.
All children and youth are
welcome to attend Sunday Church School! We have a wonderful program here at
NMCC with classrooms led by devoted and caring adult volunteers.
Birth-Three years
Our Nursery and Toddler room is staffed by warm and caring Mrs. Stella
along with a volunteer teen assistant.
Preschool – 6th Grade
Currently, we are teaching our Church School using the “rotational
model.” This model offers opportunities for the children to learn Bible stories
and faith principles through a variety of classes such as storytelling, art,
cooking, science, music, games and more. In the brief time that we have been
using this model, we’ve discovered that even the youngest of our children
retain more of the lessons, and both students and teachers are more energized
and enthusiastic.
On the first Sunday of each
month, children are asked to begin church downstairs in their classroom.
Shortly after 10am, the teachers escort them to the Community Room for a
specially designed youth service complete with an Agape Meal celebrating the
Lord’s Supper. This special service is led by teen Junior Deacons, an Adult
Deacon, and other caring adult volunteers.
For ALL other Sundays, the
children are asked to begin church service upstairs with their families. After
they participate in the Children’s Message, they are led downstairs by their
teachers and shepherds to their classrooms for the age appropriate Sunday
school lesson.
7th – 8th GradeOur
youth of these ages find themselves in a classroom devoted to their specific needs.
Their in-house developed curriculum is based upon a UCC foundational book
entitled Balaam’s Unofficial Handbook of the United Church of Christ and
is intended to help prepare their hearts and minds for their upcoming
confirmation process upon entering High School. These students find themselves
engaged in art, music and giving back to their church community all the while
learning more about a congregational church. These students are asked to
worship with their families upstairs on the first Sunday of the month. All of
the other Sundays they should arrive in their classroom; Classroom #1.
The Board of Christian Education and Executive Board of NMCC is pleased and excited to announce the hiring of our new Director of Christian Education and Youth Groups, Morgan Aery!
Morgan comes to us with a lot of experience in youth groups in her own church in Guilford. Her faith is very important to her life and she loves working with children and youth. She has been a Sunday School teacher, a counselor at Silver Lake summer camp, and is currently a staff member at an after school program. So she has many experiences which we believe will make her a very effective leader for our church school program on Sundays, plus providing primary leadership for the two youth groups.
This position is a part time position in which Morgan will find herself organizing, planning and leading our CE program and all that entails (Sunday school, VBS, Christmas pageant, etc) AND both of your youth groups (monthly meetings, mission trips, fundraising activities, etc). Of course, ALL of us can still be part of the children and youth programs (for again...the children ARE all of our children) and we can certainly offer OUR talents and support to Morgan as she leads a very important part of NMCC.
