Services to the Congregation, the Local Community, and the World Community
Through our members' and friends' generous donations, NMCC has been able to provide spiritual leadership by offering the following programs
Adult Education Programs: Evening sessions included a study of “The Heart of Christianity” by Marcus Borg Co-ordinated "The Joy of Music" program with First Church of Guilford Sponsored the annual Women’s Day retreat
Children Education Programs: Enrolled 180 children in Church School, with an average of 70 children attending weekly Organized a Christmas Pageant with a cast of seventy Church School children Collected school kits for Nicaraguan children Sponsored an Interfaith Weekend for sixth and seventh graders Sponsored a Vacation Bible School where fifty children took part The Senior High Youth Group: Raised money at the Crop Walk and Halloween Fun House Collected recyclables for the Heifer Project Cooked meals for the Shoreline Soup Kitchen Baked and delivered banana bread to those members who are ill or just joined NMCC Had a holiday progressive dinner Skied at Ascutney, VT Spent a weekend at St. John the Divine Church in New York City Attended a Global Awareness program provided by a Yale Divinity School student Organized and hosted a silent auction and car wash that supported a mission trip to Niagara Falls, NY
The Junior Youth Group: Spent a day at Camp Hazen Had a family Christmas party Raised money for the ABC House and Madison Community Youth Services Went skiing at Mt. Southington Made hats to sell at the annual Craft Fair Made pies to sell for the benefit of the Madison Toy Drive Organized a food drive at Stop N Shop for the Shoreline Soup Kitchen Made and delivered pies to those people who continue to support NMCC The Missions Committee: Collected non-perishable goods for local community people who often go hungry Served breakfast at Columbus House in New Haven every other week Sponsored an Eagle Scout-designed and built vegetable garden to benefit local food banks Supported MadisonCares II, a Habitat project in New Haven Helped resettle a family of four from Afghanistan Collected shoes, clothes, and baseball equipment for Nicaragua Supported a Mexican Orphanage Sent mail to our friends in the armed services in Iraq and Afghanistan Collected gloves, hats, and scarves for the homeless at Christmas Provided presents for our senior citizens at Christmas
The Choir: Continued to sing at least one anthem per week during the church year Participated in Madison's annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service Celebrated Mozart’s 250th birthday with a string ensemble Participated in the annual New Haven East UCC Consociation Choir Festival Joined the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church choir for a performance of the Fauré Requiem on Good Friday
The Parish Joys and Concerns Committee: Sent flowers, cards, and meals to those in need Delivered friendship bread to potential new members Co-ordinated a prayer chain for those in need Sent congratulatory cards to recent grads, moms and dads, etc.
The Fellowship Committee provided evenings of fun such as Holiday wreath making Bingo nights Potluck dinners The Fire in the Kitchen Music series
The Circle Nursery School: Enrolled 42 children in the 3, 4 and Pre-K programs. Started the Circle Tots Program for moms, dads, and kids
In addition, in the last year:
14 Baptisms were performed
17 Weddings were performed
6 Funerals and Memorial Services were performed
A New Member/Executive Committee was created
A Seder Supper was enjoyed
$500 in scholarships was awarded
Community groups such as The Boy and Girl Scouts, AA, The Circle Nursery School, and Teddy Bear Rhymes met in the church building
Property management for the church grounds, the parsonage, and the Summer Hill Cemetery was supplied
A tag sale, Christmas Fair, and antique show were held
