musings from linda 2/10/23

♥️ “COME JOIN US……THERE IS PLENTY OF ROOM FOR YOU!!!” ♥️

Are there any more heartwarming words to hear? Contrast that with — “WE’RE BETTER THAN YOU ARE!” — (sung in that nasty “sing-song tone)

OR — seen in many store windows a few years back —

“NO (Irish, Mexicans, Jews, Blacks, Hispanics, Italians, American Indians — etc. etc. — you supply the name…) NEED APPLY…”

Current laws have made such outright racist discrimination illegal, but even though the signs may have not be on the windows, it often exists just under the surface … Contrast that once again with a wonderful quote by Edwin Markham (from his poem “Outwitted”) which says:

“He drew a circle that shut me out. Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout … But Love and I had the wit to win: We drew a circle and took him IN!” Composer Sid Davis (currently Director of Music and Fine Arts at United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas) has taken words from 1 John 4:20 and created an exquisite anthem — MORE LOVE — which asks a most poignant question of us all …. the text begins:

“ More Love , More Love … The heavens are blessing, the angels are calling — O Zion — More Love. Now here is the question: If ye love not EACH OTHER in daily communion, How can ye love GOD, whom ye HAVE NOT SEEN???”

Good question. We need always to remember this …

There is NO-ONE into whose eyes we can look that GOD does not LOVE.

Click here to listen to this beautiful anthem … or better yet, listen to our own choir sing it this Sunday !
